Synchrony, a Stamford-based finance and insurance company, earned the honor in Fortune’s annual list of the “100 Best Companies to Work For.”

Fortune has compiled the list for 30 years by surveying employees and asking them to rate their workplace across 60 metrics — including the quality of leadership, pay and benefits, coworker relationships, workplace flexibility, employee appreciation, and opportunities for advancement, the outlet said.

“I’m incredibly proud of our team and what we’ve built together,” said Brian Doubles, president and CEO of Synchrony, in a statement. “Our people are true partners in our success, and there’s no question we’re a great place to do great work because of them. We listen to and trust our employees to drive innovation and results, and that trust has elevated both our business and culture. Together, we’re delivering positive impact to tens of millions of people, hundreds of thousands of businesses, and the many communities where we live and work.”

Fortune also shared a comment from a Synchrony employee.

"I love Synchrony! I am very proud to be a part of an amazing company," they wrote. "Our One Synchrony mindset, our culture, and benefits sets us apart from other companies."

Hilton, the hotel giant headquartered in McLean, Virginia, claimed the No. 1 spot on this year’s list. Cisco, American Express, and NVIDIA rounded out the top five.

Several Northeast-based companies also ranked among the best places to work. These include Wegmans (No. 6) in Rochester, New York, Bain & Company (No. 39), and Vertex Pharmaceuticals (No. 44), both based in Boston

Synchrony also made headlines earlier this week when it announced that the Synchrony Foundation had donated $1.5 million in grants to Stamford to "enhance parks, support youth education, and provide health and human services," the company said in a news release.

“We are incredibly grateful for Synchrony’s continued partnership and the many meaningful ways they support our city,” Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons said. “From beautifying our parks and small business corridors to providing vital financial support to local nonprofits, Synchrony’s contributions make a lasting impact on our community.”
